“Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery of Williamsburg was established as a full scope practice in 1985 with expertise ranging from corrective jaw surgery to wisdom tooth removal. Dr. Schmidt is qualified to diagnose and treat facial pain, extract teeth, treat facial injuries and TMJ disorders, perform a full range of dental implant and bone grafting procedures as well as Cosmetic Facial Surgery.  Additionally, Dr. Schmidt has been active in both the medical and dental communities in the Williamsburg area.  He is on the surgical staff at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center where he executes complex orofacial procedures.

There is nothing more important to Dr. Schmidt than treating each and every patient in a safe and comfortable manner. This means staying up-to-date on continuing education through various nationally recognized organizations to enhance and improve surgical outcomes.  Dr. Schmidt is a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and  a member of the Virginia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (VSOMS).  He is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon (ABOMS) and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).  He has numerous other certifications such as Basic LIfe Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).

Precision and accuracy with the aid of various techniques is paramount in today’s dynamic healthcare system.  Technology continues to improve and enhance surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction.  Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and Intra-Oral Scanning (IOS) has changed the landscape of dentistry and oral surgery.  Data from the CBCT and IOS can be merged to plan your surgery allowing for fabrication of custom guides in procedures ranging from simple implant cases, complex full arch implant cases, corrective jaw dentofacial deformity (orthognathic) maneuvers, as well as the correction of defects related to trauma and/or pathology.

Dr. Schmidt’s previous career in the United States Navy paved the way for him to learn and utilize the most state-of-the- art and research proven techniques to enhance patient outcomes for restoring your face, teeth, and jaws back to form and function.”
